Pain free movement
Flexibility is a very underrated discipline. There are two main types of stretching: passive and dynamic. We are interested in passive stretching. Stretching qualities:
- can help protecting soft tissue from damage.
- can result in muscles moving faster, therefore generating greater force/strength
- slows down the aging process
Negatives of being overly flexible:
- can lead to skeletal misalignment
- can result in joint injuries
- can result in the joints being worn out sooner as they are being used instead of muscle.
By using our joints and our muscles maximally requires two elements:
- moving the joints and muscles through their full range of motion
- developing the strength/control through their full range.
This will always be part of any program that I design for a client.
